BMW presented a modified i8 Spyder with a future user interface at the CES 2016 in Las Vegas. A movie showing the interaction with the car and the new BMW Connected app was a major part of the presentation. The car was BMW's first autopilot showcase and featured a large panorama screen with AirTouch gesture control and a 3D cluster.
My role was creative lead in a small team of visual and motion designers and I was working and traveling between BMW HQ in Munich and the Designworks studio in L.A. While being deeply involved in defining the storyline and use cases for the movie, I mostly developed the visual design and interaction concept for the screens in the car and the hologram as well for the smart phone app. Furthermore, I was instrumental aligning different stakeholders involving interior design, marketing, engineering and connected services. The collaboration also included external vendors and agencies across the globe. Beyond playing a key role in the design team I was an active part of the movie production that was shot in L.A. Here I could contribute with my storyboard sketching skills. Finally, I was able to present the car at CES Asia 2016 in Shanghai.
